When the three worlds were submerged in water, Garbhodakasayi Vishnu was alone, lying on Hts bedstead, the great snake Ananta, and although He appeared to be sleeping in His internal potency, free from the action of the external energy, His eyes were not completely closed. The Lord lay down for four thousand yuga cycles in His internal potency. When the living entities who were merged within the body of Garbhodakasayi Vishnu were ready to reenter the material world, the Lord saw His transcendental body as bluish.

Although Laksmi-devi, the eternal consort of Lord Vishnu, sat massaging His lotus feet, He took no help from her for the purpose of creation. Instead He fixed His gaze upon the subtle material nature.
